Full Title:An investigation of aspects of the physiology and ecology of Kauri (Agathis australis-Salisb). 1982Kauri has management potential but a lack of basic information on its ecology and physiology has hampered progress. This study investigates the hypothesis that there are no geographic races of kauri but that there is some genetic variability although growth rates from different areas do not vary significantly. Seedlings can withstand up to -4oC of frost and seedlings are shade plants which change to sun plants once established. Kauri grows well when water is not limiting but has rapid stomatal response which enables close control over water loss which enables them to withstand very low soil water potentials and long periods of drought once well established.
