Content
Folder is a compendium of progress reports, summaries, field visit notes and procedures for raising kauri in the nursery, planting out, establishment techniques, growth data, site requirements etc., with copies of register sheets for many sample plots. Report, 10pp dated 8.9.78, on Whirinaki plantings (Minginui FS 28/0/7) (this may be the only copy at FRI). Report on possum damage to planted kauri at Russell Forest. Important note by T Cooper 1981, summarising growth of fertilised and unfertilised kauri seedlings planted in Russell Forest in 1979, SP A823. Damage by possums, removing tops of both fertilised and unfertilised seedlings of kauri (first report in Northland?).

General Note
Until all the sample plot folders are scrutinised it will not be known whether all items have been included in this folder. There is a great deal of information and variety of views. There are at least 2 rimu and kahikatea plantings referred to (Glenbervie and Russell Forests). Reference is made to sending kauri seedlings to Dunedin (1981) where plantings have been made since 1962. A new series of trials with fertilisers was planned in 1983. Folders contain some excellent reports. It is not known how many establishment plots still exist, or their condition, as over 20 years since last reports and measurements. Sample plots quoted include Auckland 906 (8 forests), 823 (Sweetwater nursery practice), 663 (kauri regeneration), 825 (direct seeding of kauri), A597/2 (rimu planting, Glenbervie), 228 (Raetea Forest), 451 (kahikatea planting, Russell), 424 (Gt Barrier), 669 (Puketi) and many more.
