- Covers preliminary study of kauri and podocarp forest buried and well preserved, despite recent burning and draining in 1977. Radiocarbon dating of kauri sample gave 1710 +/- 80 years, silverpine 1860 +/- 50 years. Good quality photos show huge 'perched' root systems of kauri from stumps up to 3m diameter with descending peg roots from large laterals. Leaf samples collected, portable mill cutting boards near site. Folders also have photos of Pureora buried forest (rimu/tanekaha) and workplan for Puketi SP A689.

- General Note
- Maramarua site was valuable for insight into kauri ecology and depiction of massive, exposed root systems. Swamp kauri widespread in Waikato and North Auckland, but no full study has been done of Maramarua buried forest. Silver pine (old name Dacrydium colensoi = manoao and indicates wet site in Waikato).
