Content
The plot folder is entitled RO 1092, Horohoro, Enrichment planting. Contents are: location plan, register sheet, work plan proposal, Workplan 8/75 and Project Record 1803 (G Purdy and A Wicken, 1988); also a copy from FRI Annual Report 1976 on Performance of planted podocarps. The work illustrates the concept of cluster planting on selected micro sites following a logging of all the best-crowned rimu. Clusters consisted of 3-5 close planted, well-grown nursery raised podocarps and the objective was to replace felled podocarp trees with 1700 seedlings over a site of 50 ha, now included in S.E. part of Mokaihaka Ecological Area managed by DOC.

Future Work
DOC controlled forest. Recommended inspection of development 30 years after planting (ie. 2006); tawa recovery; toetoe. Compare with 1961 podocarp planting in reverted cutover at Patehere Scenic Reserve by SH5.

General Note
So-called selective logging was uncontrolled, removing best rimu and leaving matai, tawa. Regeneration survey 1964 along crest of Horohoro Forest showed scant natural podocarp regeneration. Extent of insect damage to kahikatea was recorded, survival 90% over 11 years. Annual height increment 20 cm.
