- Location map. Full data and detailed account of establishment of kahikatea and native or ornamental species in 3 plots over 0.4ha, on fertile, flat and exposed site with lush grass, near Matamata. Area 1 (triangle) and 2 (4 line avenue of kahikatea) planted with advice or assistnce of FRI at request of owner (Marshall). Spraying gave temporary grass control - vital on this site. Excellent unnumbered draft of unnumbered project record by G Pardy et al (Feb 1992) with summary of growth from 1979-1990. Height of kahikatea from nursery c.1m. Mean height of all species in 1990 about 5m and canopy nearly closed. Progress followed through remeasurements. Brief inspection by AE Beveridge on 3.4.2005 and discussion with present owners (Mrs Orr and son, RD1, Matamata).

- General Note
- One further measurement of closed canopy groves of 12m, deep-crowned kahikatea, variable in diameter, but up to 25 cm dbh. Grazed by stock. On 3.4.2005 there was heavy fruiting of kahikatea with starlings feeding on ripe receptacles. Pittosporum spp had provided early nurse with vigorous cabbage trees. These species now dead in dense groves, but some cabbage trees survive in more open areas.
