- Content
- Seven tagged sections deal with selective logging trials: high density podocarp forest (FRI), low density podocarp forest (Conservancy), Eucalypt plantings at high and lower altitude by Kakaho Rd, some with group podocarps with and without a Eucalypt nurse. Locality plans, correspondence on forest ecology.
- Source
- Pureora Forest Park, Tihoi Forest
- Future Work
- Visits by A E Beveridge to 2006. Tree mortality may be assessed together with podocarps planted or naturally regenerated in canopy gaps, over 30 years since these trials established.
- Reference
- Several papers published and reports by Herbert, Pardy.
- General Note
- 30% logging left better forest structure than 60%. Planted totara, rimu, kahikatea grew well by roadsides until many were smashed by NZ Forest managers extracting large eucalypts (E. repans, E. delegatensis).
