- Results of detailed botanical study to assess microecological changes caused by the fall of the largest (and hollow) living kauri, named 'Kopi' or Omahuta (original Maori name) in December 1973, which created a lightwell of c. 0.1 ha. One aim of the study was to assess whether the new environment would provide suitable conditions for the regeneration of kauri. Vegetation assessment indicates invasion of gap by shade-tolerant shrubs, ferns and kiekie on wet site. Small kauri seedlings ephemeral. Several copies of T Cooper's report with colour photos dated December 1982 on "Assessment of micro-ecological changes by the fall of Kopi". Items from Kauri Management Unit.

- General Note
- Very old trees often have specialised associated fauna (EJ Corner). A616 assessed as Category B sample plot (possible kauri plot to measure) by Pardy and Herbert (1992). Colony of bats lived in hollow bole. Genus of endemic wingless flies discovered in bole.
