- Probably virgin broadleaved forest until understorey cleared by small tractor in 1961 and group planted with 3-year-old kahikatea seedlings raised in FRI nursery. File contains growth data from re-measurements in 1963, 1972, 1981 and 1985. Review reports by T Cooper (12.3.82 and 30.10.85) and D McKenzie (undated, received 1986). Clearings occupies by invasive weed Eupatorium. Kahikatea released at last measurement and probably partial releasing at previous measurements. At 23 years after planting, 64% of kahikatea survived. Heights very variable according to exposure to light, 50cm to 11.4m, with 'best mean height' of 5.63m. High incidence of stem lesions from cicadas judged to have little if any effect on growth. Category A status plot.
