- Correspondence on stand from 1961-1972 when growth study established in fire-induced stand with tall old kanuka over dense kauri/rimu regeneration. Kanuka ringbarked. Stocking assessed 1962. Register sheet with location plan, plot description in Forest Journal extract, Dec 1956. Account by T. Cooper 10.10.84. Releasing to leave 250 kauri per ha, 1962. Trees measured prior to stand treatment but no control. Response to improved light conditions has been a dramatic increase in stocking by recruitment of smaller stems and increase in 'crop tree volumes'. Last entry received March 1986: summary, mean annual diameter increment for smaller kauri and rimu 0.8 - 1.5mm, rising to 4mm for stems over 17cm dia. Stocking of c.4000 stems/ha for each of these species, measured 1972-82, annual height increment 10=16cm. Copy of much of measurement data in main folder and in attached folder in vertical file.

- Plot given high rating as 'A' category. If plot can be relocated is worth a re-measurement at 80 years or more after regeneration started. Could age any remaining old kauri if visited. Plot had no treatment except for killing kanuka overwood. Is of some ecological interest as a fire-induced stand of dense kauri and rimu.
