Also contains FRI comments on plant to clear and convert much of Mamaku Forest (1969).

- FRI Experimental Areas were retained in Mamaku SF and are now in DOC's conservation reserve, as is a reserve for kokako research in Rotoehu Forest and Kaharoa.
- General Note
- The correspondence reflects different attitudes of the Conservancy and the Indigenous Forest Management unit on extensive clearing of indigenous forest on Mamaku and Kaharoa plateaux, and conversion to pine plantations. Changing situation covered by annotated papers in Mamaku Bibliography. Ecological Areas and reserves for kokako and indigenous wildlife were established.
