- Field copy of folders. Locality sketches for different planting areas: A) dense podocarp forest (rimu/tawa with few totata) by Mangawiri Access Road; B) Totara on recently burned area following logging; C) by Hydro Road - low density rimu/tawa. Small netted exclosures with 10 seedlings per exclosure and controls. Contents mainly growth and survival data at establishment in 1976 and remeasurement to 1981. A main object was to determine impact of browsing by deer or possums. A and C areas were partially logged in 1976: 50% podocarps (alternate trees) in area A, with consequent windbreak/windthrow. Insect and browse damage recorded on planted seedlings. Draft rough report in folder by G Pardy and G Steward, October 1989. Interim MS reports; 1977 3p filenote; summary MS report 1981; growth data summarised by G Steward; 4pp note typed on field trip to view Whirinaki Animal Exclosure Plots by B Veale et al June 1989. Browsing damage noted on 2005 visit (Beveridge, Pardy et al). In area A some planted rimu and kahikatea that escaped falling debris were up to 8m tall. Dense pioneer wineberry collapsing and climber tangles noted. 'Draft notes on Whirinaki Forest' Feb 2005 (Beveridge and Bergin) are held by Bergin, and at DOC BoP Conservancy office in Rotorua.

- Slow early height growth recorded in 1980 and 1981 summary and 1989 draft report. Indicates high survival and recovery from earlier deer browsing. Insect damage to totara - covered by bracken in burnt area B in 1978. Small natural regeneration of podocarps on disturbed soil in area C following heavy seed year in 1978.
