- RO316: kahikatea and rimu raised in FRI nursery were planted in 1961 in deer and possum proof enclosures, with controls, 1 year after selective logging of podocarp/tawa forest. Data sheets for re-measurement of height and assessments of browsing damage to 1976, when G Pardy summarised results in a 10p draft report, which apparently was not produced as a formal internal report or project record. Some severe damage by possums in first two winters, but eventual recovery of many seedlings. Very little establishment of new seedlings in unplanted squares: germination ephemeral or short-lived seedlings. Meticulous work and observation. Planting in forest where many podocarps senescent or with defects (rots). Good photo coverage - prints in folder pocket.
