- Following a clearing burn of logged podocarp forest in 1974, and an overburn killing any shrub hardwoods, a series of small podocrp plantings were made with and without Eucalypt nurse or a dead overwood. Growth and survival of podocarps were followed by annual or biennial measurement and hand release until 1983. Folders contain growth data, progress and inspection notes with much attention to damage by insects, hares, rabbits etc. Good summaries of podocarp performance up to 7 years from planting on different sites - flat, sloping, spurs. Mainly totara and tanekaha planted. Total for all species c.3000 in 3 sub-plots ascending Kakaho Road (Areas A, B, C). Rabbits (shoot browsing) and hares (severing stems) reduced survival of kahikatea. Navomorpha over killed leaders of some kahikatea, rimu. Falling debris from dead overwood crushed some podocarps. Initial growth of fire-induced bracken.

- Tihoi Forest included in Pureora Forest Park, 1978. Eucalypt overwood was felled in 2004, destroying most of plantings, but totara survived well where Euc. Delegatens failed - particularly on frosty sites. Vigorous, full crowned totara observed in Jan 2005. Compare totara performance on open site in plot 1/58 (A810/4), and growth of enrichment planting of totara and tanekaha in R1029. The general picture is of slow height growth in early years, but persistence until fully established, then totara and some kahikatea are around 6m tall and vigorous at age 25-30 years.
