- Location map. Rough and rewirtten data and descriptions for establishment of wilding podocarps transplanted and raised in the former Pureora Nursery. Planting site was harsh and subject to unseasonal frosts with cover of 3-5m 30-year-old manuka by forest edge ecotone, so eucalypt nurse was planted to reduce hazard of frost damage to podocarps. Plot never registered but was covered by general workplan A297 on podocarp planting trials. Totara and tanekaha measured at intervals from 1959-1979 with attention paid to insect and frost damage and debarking of tanekaha sapplings by red deer. Summaries included. Last inspected by AE Beveridge with MC Smale or Mike Wilcox in 2005. Prolific natural podocarp regeneration with planted totara established but slow growing. Manuka replaced by lancewood, five finger, kohuku. Note by G Pardy that a measurement was made in 1987 but no data or report is enclosed.

- AE Beveridge could write a report on growth and survival of planted podocarps over 47 years with vegetation changes.
- General Note
- This area has been under DOC management since 1987. Large eucalypt overwood ring girdled several years ago and much damage by falling dead trees and debris. Site was subject to repeated fires until 1920s. Growth on poor site can be compared with much better growth of closed canopy totara on freshly cleared forest site plot 1/58, cf plot 4/59. There is no recorded result from fertiliser application at 1 year.
