- Plot folder contains only a register sheet, work plan and location maps. Inspection notes and survival data on electronic file, held by Greg Steward. The 1 ha fenced site was grassed and grazed and is adjacent to reverting tawa forest resulting from early logging of podocarps. Part of several hundred hectares former experimental area where trials with planting podocarps or releasing natural regeneration were carried out in 1970s following regeneration surveys that showed exceptional amount of podocarp regeneration. Previously in FRI Experimental Area No.2, established in 1970s and subject to Nature Heritage funding to purchase site from FRI in 2002. A harsh frosty site at 600m a.s.l. presenting a challenge to test methods of restoring site to forest by planting hardy indigenous shrubs.
