- Folder contains material on 3 sub-plots to re-establish indigenous species on open sites recently cleared after logging of dense podocarp forest, adjacent to the Pikiariki Ecological Area. Planted from 1978-1982, using up to 20,000 seedlings, mainly podocarps, plus eucalypts and some broadleaved species as nurses. Altitude 580-600 m-asl. Folder has location maps, progress reports after remeasurements, growth and survival data nd correspondence between FRIO, Auckland Conservancy office, Te Kuiti District, Pureora staff. Progress reports by Pureora staff 1982-84; inspection notes by FRI staff 1978-2005. Last inspection notes by Beveridge in December 2004 and January 2005; report to Maniopoto Area office of DOC, dated 4.1.05 and 21.1.05. - Successful open plantings with subsequent nurse function from indigenous shrubs and eucalypts. These experimental areas should receive a GPS location and be registered as per current interest of NZ Institute of Foresters and Tane's Tree Trust. Liaison with DOC is necessary to avoid damage or destruction.
