- This file contains various reports and plot data records on indigenous species in Westland. They are as follows, from the start of the file:1. Report on 'Remeasurement of Waipuna Pole Red Beech, sample plot, Wd. 71. (October 1971). The sample plots were established in 1959 by A. Kirkland and Forest Ranger T. E. Rogers and remeasured and assessed by R. W. Washbourn. It compares the effects of different thinning treatments on red beech.2. Report on 'Treatment of Thicket Stage Red Beech', Trial number Wd. 70 (May 1971). This report studies the growth rates and development of treated and untreated even-aged red beech regeneration. It contains the sample plot data records. The trial was established in 1958. this report was prepared by R. W. Washbourn. The plots are located in the Starvation Point area, between the Ahaura-Kopara Road and the Ahaura River. Two of the sub-plots lie at the junction of the Hamers Road and the Canterbury Track, and are separated by the former. The third plot lies several chains from the other two along the Canterbury Track.3. Short report on 'Rimu Seed Periodicity and Distribution - Assessment' on State Forest 41 by E. J. Rooney (July 1967).4. Report on 'First Re-Assessment of the Indigenous Domestication Trial', State Forest 41 and 42 by W. W. Travers. Contains a short report and sample plot data which determines the survival rate of rimu, totara and kahikatea on a variety of sites and treatment types used.5. Report on Sample Plot 90 (January 1962) by W. W. Travers to assess the survival rate and growth increment of rimu regeneration which has become established after strip-felling. It contain sample plot records.6. Report on ' Sample Plot Wd. 68, Remeasurement winter 1960' by C. G. R. Chavasse. This sample plot was established in 1953 to investigate the ecology, growth, mortality and to initiate silvicultural studies on podocarp stands. It contains all sample plot data.
