- It is rare for kauri seedlings to be damaged by temperatures down to -2oC. Between -2oC and -4oC cotyledonary seedlings and new growth on older seedlings will be killed. Below 4oC most plants, even when dormant, are killed. However if some form of cold conditioning is carried out seedlings should withstand temperatures 1 - 1.5oC colder than normal. Seed germination is probably enhanced by seed being exposed to temperatures down to -6oC. Below this seed, unless dry, will be damaged. Nurse plant cover will be important on sites liable to more than 2 or 3oC of frost.
