Content
A wide range of trials to study the atrificial establishment of kauri were established over the 226 6x 6 metre plots which carried vegetation ranging from grass to mature kanuka. Also included were about 20 rimu plots, 4 kawaka plots and 1 Fijian kauri plot. Treatments included a very wide range of fertilizers, light variation by canopy manipulation, time of planting, seedling size, releasing methods. Unfortunately the site variations within the area were very large and it was not possible to get any data on fertilizer response apart from the strong indication that short term fertilizer (super phosphate, urea etc) had little or no effect but that long term fertilizers (IBDU etc) did. Although much practical experience and knowledge was gained from the trials, which were last measured in 2002, the real benefit is likely to come from later work as described in other reports.

Future Work
Desirable to continue maintenance of the area and do periodic remeasurements. It could be useful to establish thinning trials in some of the better plots.
General Note
Note that work reported in TTT000096 and 97 also use data from this planting trial.

Is reasonably well sorted

Only two copies of the initial report I 2, known to exist -both held by IB. Further copies should be made.
