Locality plan. Mainly measurement data from establishment in 1959 to last measurement of growth and survival in 1987. This appears to be a field folder and others exist. There are manuscript file notes and summaries of growth to 1987 for both comparable plots 3/59 and 4/59. Last entry is manuscript summary for both plots in 1987. General Note
Plot 3/59 was visited by Beveridge and Smale in 2008. Rapid plant succession was noted: manuka gone, lancewood in shrub canopy, eucalypts ringbarked by DOC were disintegrating. Tanekaha has grown faster than totara, but many saplings were damaged and/or killed by antler rubbing by deer. Totara in 4/59 has grown twice as fast on previous manuka site without eucalypt 'nurse'. Eucalypt was used to ameliorate frosty microclimate and should have been removed at about age 10 after aiding podocarp establishment.
