- Folder contains several drafts of paper by R C Lloyd and R J Cameron 'The silvicultural treatment of naturally regenerated kauri at Great Barrier Forest' 1962. Paper not approved for publication after strong criticism. Also was intended for presentation at NZIF conference. Light requirements of kauri are discussed and whether or not kauri regeneration showed significnt response to reducing competition and creation of canopy gaps by ring-girdling manuka canopy (up to 15m tall). Method of calculating annual height increment of kauri in doubt - by measuring lengths between rings of bud scars on stems. Objective was to increase kauri component in forest treatment of 700 ha from 1948-1969 and further areas later. General draft account of Gt Barrier Forests in draft of a further report 'Indigenous forest management review' undated (1978?). No author given.

- There was no clear, substantial response by kauri to the treatment. The work was probably discussed at kauri conferences. Decreased biodiversity and policy changes led to cessation of 'releasing' treatments which were costly. Response of kauri to treatment previously untested and only small response in terms of increased growth were demonstrated by this report.
