- Letters reflect imminent closure of KMU and NZ Forest Service in 1987, and future of kauri management under new organisations, particularly DOC. Correspondence with Auckland Conservancy and others; current kauri projects and fututre work are listed; Cooper's activities; joint projects with FRI; sample plots listed are A448/3, A823, A949; detailed history of artificial establishment of kauri to 1986; useful list of coastal indigenous species relatively resistant to fire (relevant for restoration work) 23.6.86. An article by Cooper: Kauri seedling production (11pp) for 'Forest Information Newsletter' (NZFS) 18.7.86 is filed in FS 13/2 (Kaikohe file).

- Also, Cooper (1984) Kauri sample plot review, 86p, included index to 17 of most important kauri sample plots. Note that this review was not found in this file collection (K G2 folder), but was possibly used in the later review of kauri plots (Pardy and Herbert, 1992).

- Kauri planting programme continued 1986- 17,000 seedlings. Work summary also held on FRI file 28/5. KMU was disbanded in 1987 - legacy of trials and sample plots and sound work.
